Lukas Nmecha has joined Wolfsburg on a four-year deal from Manchester City, fresh from firing Germany to their third UEFA U21 European Championship title.
Nmecha who grabbed the only goal in this summer’s U21 final against Portugal – is back in the Bundesliga and at Wolfsburg for the second time, having made six appearances for the Wolves during the first half of 2019/20.
The 22-year-old spent the 2020/21 season on loan at Belgian club Anderlecht, scoring 21 goals in 41 competitive appearances.
“Although it wasn’t an easy time for me in a sporting sense, I felt good in Wolfsburg and in the team,” Nmecha said. “I’m excited to see a lot of familiar faces.”
Nmecha was born in Germany, but moved to England as a child, representing the Three Lions at youth level before switching his allegiance back to his birth country. A Germany U21 debutant in March 2019, he took his tally to 12 goals in 20 appearances at the 2021 Euro finals, where he finished as the competition’s four-goal top scorer.
The Hamburg native has also played club football for England’s Preston North End and Middlesbrough, but was restricted to two English Premier League outings in the colours of Man City, whom he joined as a 17-year-old in July 2015.
